Gilbert Inglefield Academy, representing Luton Town FC Community Trust, were crowned regional champions after sealing a 1-0 victory over Watford in the final of the Under-11 Premier League Primary Stars National Girls’ regional schools’ tournament in London.
Throughout the competition the girls faced Chelsea, Arsenal, West Ham, Bromley, Milton Keynes, Wimbledon, Watford and Brentford, finishing with six wins, two draws and one defeat. They have now qualified for the national final, taking place later this year.
With more than 1,200 schools and 9,000 players taking part in the qualifiers, only 20 schools progressed to the national final – making this an incredible achievement. The girls will have the incredible opportunity to experience a day in the life of a Premier League footballer – playing at a Premier League stadium under the watchful eyes of Premier League and Women’s Super League officials.
To progress to the regional tournament in London, Gilbert Inglefield emerged as winners of our local Luton and Bedfordshire county tournament, where more than 20 schools and over 200 girls took part.
For the second consecutive year, a school representing Luton Town FC Community Trust has qualified for the national final. Last year, Leighton Middle School, representing Luton Town FC Community Trust, finished runners-up at the national final at Molineux.
The tournament is part of the Premier League Primary Stars programme which uses the power of football, sports and Luton Town badge to inspire 5–11-year-olds to stay active and develop essential life skills.
