Liam Walsh is not going anywhere!

After Jordan Clark, another key midfielder commits their future to the Hatters

Liam Walsh contract

Liam Walsh is the latest midfielder to say that he’s staying put at Kenilworth Road.

Hot on the heels of Jordan Clark’s contract renewal, Walsh has put pen to paper on fresh terms to also extend his career as a Hatter.

The 28-year-old, who joined the Town in August 2024, has become a key component of the Hatters midfield under Jack Wilshere, playing a leading role alongside Clark.

Speaking to LTFC+ after finalising his deal after taking part in an off-season training session at The Brache today, Walsh said: “It’s something I’ve wanted to do for a while. I had talks with the manager earlier on in the season and he knew how much I wanted to be at the club next year.

“It has taken a while to get done, with all the stuff going on this season. But we’ve pushed and pushed on both sides to get it done, and I couldn’t be any happier.”

Asked about how much of a role Wilshere has played in that, he added: “Massively. I’ve been wanting to get it done since he came in because the first couple of weeks, I learned so much from him.

“He’s given me the most game time I’ve had through a season and I know that I’ve got a manager who believes in what I can do on a pitch, and that’s all you want as a player. I think I’ve still got so much to learn from him, and I can’t wait to work with him again.”

Wilshere was delighted to get a player on board who started 30 of his 43 matches in charge, saying: “Walshy knew my thoughts on him and his contract early on, but what I love about him is that he just loves the game and didn’t want to focus on that. He just wanted to carry on playing, and playing well.

“He was in the team and a very important player for us last season. I made it clear to everyone that how we move forward is by signing players like Jordan Clark, like Liam Walsh, who understand exactly what I want, can execute it, but can also have a big influence on the group.

“Also with Walshy, what he had to go through was a big thing. It’s always the person before the player, and he dealt with that so well. It was difficult for him and his girlfriend, but he wanted to come back and help the team, so that told me he’s not just the type of player, but the type of person that we also want at the club.

“He leads by example and we all know what he can do on the pitch, but off the pitch is just as important.

“We love him; not just me, all the coaches, and it’s so important. That’s what we are trying to create here. We all felt from day one that everyone has been fully in and committed to what we want, none more than Walshy.”

The story so far

‘Walshy’ joined the Hatters on a free transfer in August 2024 after leaving Swansea.

He started his career in Everton’s under-18s side in 2015, appearing in several Premier League 2 and FA Youth Cup games before having loan spells at Birmingham and Yeovil Town.

He would leave Everton in 2019 following a term of playing for the under-23s before he went on to join Bristol City where he spent the year before being sent out on loan to Coventry.

In July 2021 he made the move to Swansea where he yet again was loaned out this time to Hull City where he made eight league appearances, six being from the bench.

The midfielder would make seven Championship appearances on his return to the Swans before making a permanent move to the Hatters in August, making his debut at Preston.

He was sent off twice after coming on as a substitute in 2024/25, firstly at home against Oxford within seconds of his introduction and then at Blackburn having been on the pitch for just 11 minutes – and many thought that would be the midfielder’s final appearance in Town colours.

Liam penned an emotional apology after that dismissal at Ewood Park, vowing to make up for it. He did so, going on to be a regular in the side playing at the end of the 2024/25 campaign, playing important role quickly become a fans’ favourite as the Town just failed in avoiding relegation.

Liam continued his consistency in 2025/26, scoring his first goal for the club in the 2-1 win over Northampton which booked the Hatters a place in the Vertu Trophy final.

He would play a leading role as the Town went onto lift the trophy after beating Stockport and ended the campaign having made 40 appearances as the Hatters missed out on the play-offs.

Having won the Ian Pearce Memorial Trophy, for winning the most man-of-the-match awards at home games, Walshy is now looking forward to more of the same after signing a new deal.
