Mark McGuinness, Lamine Fanne, Tom Holmes and Gideon Kodua were all involved in a behind-closed-doors friendly for the under-21s at The Brache on Tuesday.

Alex Lawless’ side ran out 1-0 winners against Northampton with Claude Kayibanda’s second-half header proving the difference.

McGuinness, Holmes and Kodua all played the first 45 minutes while Fanne played 55 minutes against the Cobblers.

“McGuinness and Holmes dominated all long balls and that wasn’t just heading,” said Lawless.

“They brought the ball down and started lots of attacks from the back showing a good range of passes with Christian Chigozie fitting in very well next to them.

“Lamine and Gideon worked hard and made some good runs in behind, showing great strength in their duels, and found themselves wriggling out of tight areas in the box on numerous occasions.”

Meanwhile Joe Deeney’s Under-18s went down 3-1 against Leighton Town with Sam Hincapie-Alfonso scoring the Town’s goal.

The Under-21s head to Hemel Hempstead for a friendly on Saturday while the Under-18s travel to Aston Villa.
